Chiropractic Care
When they hear chiropractic care, many people automatically think of a way to address back and neck pain. Chiropractic does indeed do a great job of doing just that, but it’s about so much more. Chiropractic helps to restore mobility and flexibility in your spine, pelvis and hips. This form of natural health care also reduces tension in the nervous system and the muscles. When your spine and nervous system are working better, that’s another step in optimizing your health.
An Evidence-Based Practice
At Achieve Health and Wellness, we provide evidence-based care. What that means is any approach or technique that Dr. Haitsma uses is based on research and evidence to support its effectiveness.
Conditions Chiropractic Can Address
While chiropractic doesn’t treat or cure anything, it can successfully address a broad array of conditions. These mainly include musculoskeletal issues that include the following:
- Acute and persistent back pain
- Ankle and foot pain
- Arm, elbow pain and wrist pain
- Hip pain
- Knee pain
- Leg pain
- Lumbar spinal stenosis
- Migraines and headaches
- Shoulder pain
Our Techniques
With more than 40 years of experience in practice, Dr. Haitsma is well-versed in a wide variety of techniques. He can customize any particular method to best meet your needs. If you’ve been adjusted elsewhere and have a favorite style of adjusting, let him know. He will do his best to accommodate your request.
- Myofascial Release This soft tissue technique is used to help release tension and irritation in the muscles. It facilitates faster healing and improves mobility. To perform the technique, we use slight pressure on the muscles. Myofascial release started as a way to address sports injuries and get athletes back into the field of play or the arena faster. But now the technique is used for anybody who can benefit from it. We often use myofascial release for headaches, low back and shoulder pain.
- Palmer Package This refers to a core variety of full spine adjusting techniques that are taught at Palmer College of Chiropractic. One of these techniques is Diversified, a hands-on approach. The Palmer Package is used all over the world.
- Activator Methods® This widely researched technique uses a handheld instrument to provide an effective and gentle adjustment. Activator is ideal for seniors as it’s a low force method. Many people prefer this technique because there’s no tension. We’ve been using this approach for more than 40 years at the office.
- iQ™ Impulse This state-of-the-art instrument provides gentle and precise computer-aided chiropractic adjustments to alleviate pain and restore function. There is no twisting or popping associated with this method.
- Thompson Drop-Table With this technique, a person lies face down on the adjusting table and parts of the table drop underneath them quickly. The drop allows gravity to work in tandem with the manual adjustment. The result is a light-force adjustment that makes the adjustment more comfortable for the patient.

- The other option is to choose to protect the progress you have made and your goals achieved. About 50% of patients choose to come in for wellness or maintenance care to support the changes they have experienced. Think of this option like using a dental retainer after your braces have been removed. You wear your retainer because you want to keep your teeth straight and not have them go back to their crooked state. Wellness/maintenance care typically includes having check-ups at three-to-four-week intervals, depending on the demands of your occupation, recreational pursuits or lifestyle.
